Spanish translators for Jordan High School

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: EnCorps STEM Teachers Program

Help us translate biology into Spanish for our Spanish-speaking students!

Our high school is in desperate need of Spanish speakers who can help to translate Biology lessons and class material in a dynamic class environment here in Watts.

About 75% of our students only speak Spanish but our instructors have minimal to no Spanish skills. As of now there are no translators that are provided by the district and we rely on other bilingual Spanish speaking students to do their best in translating our instruction during class. Help is needed any time in class to help translate the instruction from 1-2P every day, or even help outside this time window to translate class material such as worksheets and homework. As of now, Spanish speaking students are expected to keep up with little to no English support to complete these assignments and tests, and as a result they are all failing. Please help us in making their learning experience better!

Mission Statement

WE ARE STEM PROFESSIONALS PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION TO CLOSE ACHIEVEMENT GAPS FOR STUDENTS IN LOW INCOME COMMUNITIES

Description

Founded in 2007, EnCorps Inc. is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit with operations in California as well the greater Denver, Colorado and New York City areas. EnCorps connects highly effective STEM educators with public school students to counter the systemic injustice preventing children in under-resourced communities from accessing a high-quality STEM education. The EnCorps STEM Teachers Program(r) recruits, selects and supports STEM professionals and experts in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields as well as individuals who possess an advanced STEM degree to transition to teaching as an innovative, long-term solution to the STEM teacher shortage and to counter the alarming lack of math proficiency of middle and high school students nationwide. The EnCorps STEMx Tutors Program matches middle school students, currently under-performing in math, with volunteer STEM professionals, subject-matter experts and STEM college students to increase math skills and confidence prior to students entering high school.
