The Girls on the Run 5K is the celebratory end of our girls' accomplishments in the Girls on the Run program. This season, more than 1,900 girls and their coaches, families, and friends will participate in the Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday, November 4 at Children's Mercy Park. Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Volunteers are specifically needed for the following roles:
Course Monitors:
Course monitors are essential to the safety of the 4,500 participants on the course. Course monitors are responsible for making sure participants follow the course correctly and are protected from traffic and spectators. You will be the eyes and ears of the Race Director and may have to respond in the event of an injury or accident. But most important (and fun!) you will be cheering on and motivating the GOTR girls and other participants as they complete the 5K. It is your job to make lots of noise and cheer on our participants as they pass you. 75 volunteers needed, 8:00 a.m. check-in time.

Mission Statement
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Description
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in the third through eighth grade with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run Serving Greater Kansas City serves more than 4,000 girls throughout fifteen counties in the greater Kansas City area each year.
The 10-week program is led by specially-trained coaches and takes the girls through lessons such as banning negative self-talk, the dangers of gossip, healthy eating habits, and a community service project, to name a few. Running is woven into each lesson to inspire a life-long appreciation for physical fitness and to build healthy habits that will last a lifetime. The season concludes with the Girls on the Run 5k, a non-competitive celebration of the girls’ achievements with their family, friends and coaches.
