We need volunteers to meet our monthly challenge - Join our team
UPO has partnered with the Capital Area Food Bank and is a host site for the monthly UPO Grocery Plus Program. This program provides 30-40 pounds of healthy groceries monthly to seniors 60 years old and over who live in the District of Columbia and meet income guidelines.
Can you "Pitch in" to help our seniors? Every bit of in-kind support will bring a smile to a Senior face.
UPO Grocery Plus begins the first Tuesday each month. Volunteers are asked to report at 9:00 am
Dates
Tuesday March 7 th - Friday March 10th
Tuesday April 4 th - Friday April 7 th
Tuesday May 2 nd - Friday May 5 th
Tuesday June 6 th - Friday June 9 th
We will receive a load of produce that will need to be bagged and over 400 boxes distributed to seniors.
Our challenge is to have all 400+ boxes picked up or delivered by the 15 th of each month.
Are you up to the challenge?
Volunteers are needed to:
Produce Sorters and Baggers- (Must be able to lift 20 pound)
Tuesday Only - Receive delivery of produce and sort and bag for distribution
Greeters -Welcome seniors to site and answer any questions they may have about
the Grocery Plus Program- 2 volunteers
Intake Volunteers -Check in seniors using the approved roster - 3 volunteers
Phone Navigators - make friendly reminder calls to seniors to pick up their box - 2 volunteers
Inventory and Distribution Volunteers-(Must be able to lift 40 pounds)
Assist seniors moving their box to their vehicle -3 volunteers each day)
Drivers -
Deliver 10 - 16 boxes for inbound seniors***(hours are flexible with the use of your own vehicle)
You pick your day(s) minimum 4.0 hours each day.

Just a few reminders:
**In accordance with the DC Government and/or CDC recommendations, all volunteers MUST BE VACCINATED and are required to wear a mask or face covering at all times in our facility over their mouth and nose. We are asking volunteers bring their own if possible**
**All volunteers, guests, and staff are required to have their temperature taken by touchless scanner when entering our facilities.
