Understanding Disabilities provides disability awareness programming in the Reading Public Schools, to help children see beyond people's disabilities and focus on the ways that we are all the same inside.
We are beginning to plan JAIL & BAIL-2016, our annual fundraiser to take place at the Reading Fall Street Faire on 9/11/16. Each year, the event has been successful as well as a lot of fun. We raise much needed funds to allow our program to run, and everyone has a fun time doing it. This will mark the sixth year for our event- and to be successful it needs to be refreshed with new ideas and new energy. With your help this year, UD can raise the money it needs to provide disability awareness programming in the 2016/2017 school year. This upcoming school year marks a milestone for UD, when we unveil our newly revamped curriculm.
Our organization relies on 200 volunteers each year to run successfully. Seven years ago, all funding from the town was eliminated due to budget cuts- leaving the task of fundraising to our board of directors and pool of volunteers. We would welcome help in making our signature event a success again this year.

Description
Understanding Disabilities, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves all students in the Reading public schools and the Reading community at large. Our mission is to educate children about disabilities to help them see beyond people's disabilities and to focus on the ways we are all the same inside.
Celebrating 31 years in the schools, we highlight all that people with disabilities can do and we promote a culture of inclusion and respect. Our curriculum provides information about a range of physical, sensory, and developmental disabilities to improve students’ school, social, and learning experiences. All students benefit from UD programming, but none more than those with disabilities.
