ORGANIZATION: American Councils for International Education

Host a Student from Russia!

Do you want to be a cultural ambassador for your country and help shape America's global image?

Would you like to create a lifelong bond with a young leader from the other side of the world?

Make a lasting impact on the life of a young person from Russia and volunteer to host for the YEAR Program!

American Councils is looking for people with open homes to host three young Russian undergraduate students who are coming to study at Davidson Community College on a competitive scholarship program this coming academic year, from August 2016 to June 2017.

These high-achieving students will be studying at Davidson Community College through a U.S. State Department-funded exchange program designed to encourage personal ties and cultural bridges between the U.S. and Russia-something both countries are in critical need of in today's political climate.

The most important criteria for U.S. hosts is openness to other cultures, enthusiasm for the future of youth, and a willingness to share American culture to show these young leaders what America is really like. And in the spirit of mutual understanding, we hope our host families will be open to the new cultural perspective that our Russian students will bring to America. The only requirements are that the host families provide a caring environment, daily meals, a comfortable bed, a place to study-and most importantly, support, conversation and guidance as the students adapt to America.

Write to us at year@americancouncils.org and start the journey!

Mission Statement

A leader in international education, academic exchange, and overseas language immersion, American Councils creates opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Description

American Councils for International Education is a premier, international nonprofit creating educational opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an interconnected and increasingly interdependent world.

Through academic exchanges, overseas language immersion, and educational development programs, American Councils designs and administers innovative programs that broaden individual perspectives, increase knowledge, and deepen understanding. After being immersed in other countries and cultures, our participants become culturally aware citizens of the world, contributing to mutual understanding and successful international collaboration.

From developing the first exchanges of Eurasian and American students and teachers in the 70s - to current initiatives supporting collaborative education between the U.S., Middle East, South America, Asia, and Africa - American Councils facilitates overseas experiences that create informed and empowered global citizens. Since 1974, American Councils has responded to the needs of the communities where we work with hundreds of robust, international education programs that include academic exchanges, language immersion, testing and assessment, professional training, community development, and scholarly research.
