Mission Statement

NAMI Tennessee is a grassroots, self-help organization dedicated to improving quality of life for individuals with mental illness, their families and communities. Our mission is accomplished through mutual support, eduation and advocacy.

Description

NAMI TN is the state office and part of NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness. There are 45 local NAMI affiliates across TN. , including 3 on college campuses.

Each affiliate hosts monthly support groups, and provides free education for caregivers of adults living with mental illness and for caregivers of children living with mental illness.

Our office provides affiliates leadership training, hosts a state convention and addresses government policy changes, through legislative action.

Along with many other programs, we bring awareness to the fact that 1 out of 4 people have a mental illness at sometime in thier lives. It can be situational, seasonal or SPMI (severely persistent mental illness) which includes depression, ADHD, and bipolar, just to name a few.

We want to help society realize that mental illness is a medical condition just like heart disease. So we teach mental health 101 at teacher in-services, police departments, etc.

Additionally we host a toll free, Helpline Service at 1-800-467-3589
