About

The JA Company Program Blended Model unlocks the innate ability in students to solve a problem or fill a need in their community through an entrepreneurial spirit.

In partnership with Leigh High School in San Jose, Junior Achievement and community volunteers will mentor high school students as they create and lead their student run enterprise.

Revised in 2015, the JA Company Program materials are digital, allowing JA volunteers access to a digital learning environment where they will help manage their student's business.

The programs will begin on January 10, 2017 and run every Tuesday for 13 weeks. We are in need of a group of volunteers to pair and facilitate the JA program.

  • Company Ops is that portion of the meeting during which students build and manage their business. This usually will take the majority of the meeting time.

  • Deeper Dives are optional activities or suggestions on how to extend the meeting topic. Students work individually or in groups.

    Volunteers will:

  • Receive ready-to-use materials provided by JA

  • Teach 13 - 90 minute sessions to a class of approximately 15 high school students

  • Receive a 2 hour training (can be at company worksite), and provide a minimum of 2 hour on school site

  • 1-5 volunteers maximum needed for the program. Volunteers will coordinate their schedules with JA and Leigh High Staff and are not required to attend each of the 13 sessions.

  • Program will be on Tuesdays from 3 to 5, possibly 2 to 4 (Schedule TBD)

  • With a volunteer, students will be eligible for the JA Company of the Year Competition in April 2017
