AmeriCorps VISTA opportunities

Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC) is teaming up with AmeriCorps VISTA to strengthen partnerships between higher education and non-profit organizations to alleviate poverty and create positive social change. We are doing this by hosting a multi-campus program in which 15 AmeriCorps VISTA Members will serve full-time at non-profits affiliated with Saint Mary's College, Sonoma State University, Stanford University and University of San Francisco. Join us!

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

AmeriCorps VISTA Members work one day per week at their sponsoring university and four days per week at a community partner organization . While the specific responsibilities are unique, each job description has three focus areas:

  1. The first focus area is to be the point of contact and organizer between the non-profit and university students, faculty, and staff who have projects at the non-profit organization.

  2. The second focus area is to strengthen the infrastructure at each non-profit for volunteer management.

  3. The third focus area is a capacity-building project identified at each non-profit organization.
