Do you have a passion for motivating and inspiring young people? Treehouse’s goal is for youth in foster care in King County to graduate at the same rate as their peers with a plan for their future by 2017. We need the teaching skills and dedication of volunteers who are at least 18 to achieve this goal by providing tutoring, homework help, credit recovery support, senior project help, and other academic services for students in middle school and high school.
Graduation Success Volunteers work 1:1 with our youth, primarily as tutors. Our specific needs for volunteers are dependent on student requests, but are often in the areas of math and science.Volunteers go to the locations where our students are able to meet (coffee shops, libraries, community centers), and our greatest need is for volunteers in South King County (Federal Way, Des Moines, Kent, Covington, etc.). The main window of time when students are available is from 2:30-6:00pm on weekdays, but they are occasionally available on weekends.
We ask that volunteers commit to meet with one student each week for at least 6 months. All volunteers must pass a DSHS background check before they begin working with youth.
