ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

The Hollywood Education and Literacy Project (H.E.L.P.) is a nonprofit, charitable organization whose mission is to eradicate illiteracy and empower the individual to become a competent, independent learner with sound communication skills that make it possible to succeed in life.

Program Description: H.E.L.P. is seeking a volunteer to train as a Grant Writer. The trainee will do a 12 week course with practical assignments and compile information for grant proposals as their volunteer activity. After training, the volunteer will have the option to do an apprenticeship and write actual grant proposals for H.E.L.P.

Volunteer Role & Responsibilities: The volunteer will do research information sheets on potential funders, organize the information, communicate with funding sources by letter and phone calls and develop the database for grant proposals. When trained, the volunteer will have the opportunity to write grant proposals.

Time Commitment: A 12 week training course, which can be done online, with practicals of a few hours a week at H.E.L.P. The hours will vary.

Requirements: The volunteer must do a Live Scan.

Benefits: Helping others to overcome illiteracy is rewarding in itself. The volunteer will also gain valuable skills and experience in the field of grant writing.
