Information Desk- Welcome and greet visitors as they arrive to St. David’s; assist with escorting visitors and patients around SDMC campus; provide wheelchair transport as need; provide general information about the facility

Cardiology Waiting Room - Serve as a liaison between family members and hospital staff for patients having cardiac procedures; Establish a pleasant, caring atmosphere for family and visitors; Provide visitors with information on the facility.

ICU Waiting Room - Serve as a liaison between family members, hospital staff and patients who are in ICU; establish a pleasant, caring atmosphere for family and visitors; provide visitors with information on the facility.

Surgery Waiting Room - Serve as a liaison between family members and hospital staff for patients in surgery; establish a pleasant, caring atmosphere for family and visitors; provide visitors with information on the facility.

Emergency Department - Assist nursing staff with changing over beds; stocking supplies; lab runs; patient rounding; discharges and other duties as assigned. **ED Volunteers must have a high level of maturity and be able to work independently with little or no direction in an atmosphere of high stress. Volunteers in the ED must be 18 or older.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - Assist nursing staff by stocking supplies; checking-in family members; assisting with scrub-ins; directing parents to appropriate bays; light clerical work and other duties as assigned.

Newborn Nursery - Assist nursing staff by providing infant care including bathing, feeding, rocking, changing diapers; Transporting patients to and from mother’s room; other duties as assigned by nurses. **Newborn nursery volunteers must be 21 years of age and willing to commit to a minimum of 1 year of service, including 1 month of training.

NICU Rocker - Provides compassionate nurture to NICU infants by rocking and holding eligible patients. **NICU Rocker volunteers must be 25 years of age and willing to commit to a minimum of 1 year of service.

Rehabilitation Hospital - Nursing Unit Aide - Assist nursing staff with stocking supplies; lab runs; ice & water to patients; serving patient meals; clerical duties and other duties as assigned.

Children’s Immunization Education (SVCI) - Visit with mothers of newborns to offer them information on childhood immunizations; Provide mothers with information about free post card program; Ability to speak Spanish highly preferred.

Clerical Support - Provide clerical assistance to an assigned department as needed; Duties may include filing, faxing, copying, answering phones, assisting with mail outs, department projects, and basic computer entry/word processing - See Volunteer Services for a list of departments needing clerical support.

Patient Discharge Liaison - Call patients after discharge to ensure quality of stay and follow-up of care. **Patient Discharge Liaison must be 25 years of age. Volunteers with a background in nursing preferred. Volunteers must be able to communicate effectively and maintain a calm and pleasant demeanor.

Patient Representative - Visit with hospital patients and serve as liaison between hospital staff and patient/family; provide information about SDMC. **Patient representatives must be 25 years of age and willing to commit to a minimum of 1 year of service, including training. Volunteers must be able to communicate effectively and maintain a calm and pleasant demeanor even during stressful situations.

Women’s Center (Breast Center) - Females Only - Greet patients after they have checked-in; maintain clean dressing rooms and waiting rooms; act as a liaison between staff and patients’ wait times; clerical work and other duties as assigned.
