For 25 years, HI New York City (HI NYC), located at 891 Amsterdam Avenue, has been a vibrant hub for community, diversity, and tolerance in the City. HI NYC is part of the network of hostels of Hostelling International USA (HI USA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on an enduring belief in the power of travel to foster a deeper understanding of people, places, and cultures for a more tolerant world. HI NYC has hosted more than one million travelers who are able to discover the city’s rich history and culture, as well as meet and connect with fellow travelers from all over the world. HI NYC education and engagement programs serve about 20,000 people annually.

We are recruiting members to form a Young Professionals Council that will build awareness, network, and coordinate fundraising initiatives in support of HI NYC’s 25 th anniversary. While engaged in these activities, you have an opportunity to connect and socialize with like-minded peers and colleagues. Volunteers will provide vital support by advancing and promoting the HI NYC 25 th Anniversary Campaign and accompanying efforts and activities (particularly special events and networking opportunities). The council will work closely with HI NYC engagement staff and Resource Development staff at headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build awareness of HI NYC and its 25 years of service to the community (including all social media)
  • Plan and recruit peers and individuals within personal networks to attend networking, fundraising events, and relevant activities, off site and at the hostel
  • Attend council meetings or conference calls, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to become an HI USA ambassador, who can promote its mission to personal networks and beyond
  • Passion for cross-cultural understanding
  • Experience with and/or interest in nonprofit fundraising and campaigns
