ORGANIZATION: The United Arc

The United Arc Board of Directors is seeking new members.

The United Arc provides residential and individual services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties and the North Quabbin region of Massachusetts.

The Board of Directors oversees the governance of all of the affairs of the agency.

Board member responsibilities include:

  • Advocacy for the general welfare of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Approval of the annual budget, audit reports and other fiscal and legal decisions related to the development of programs for the benefit of the individuals served
  • Solicitation of funds in furtherance of the organization's purpose
  • Provision of guidance to the Executive Director
  • Oversight of the implementation of the agency's Strategic Plan
  • Representation of the agency in the communities served
  • Participation in committees to further the goals and objectives of the organization

Board Terms:

  • A two-year term with up to three consecutive terms for a total of six years
  • Members of the Board serve without remuneration
  • Members are indemnified
  • Board of Director meetings are held monthly at the agency's main office in Turner's Falls

Qualifications:

  • Individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities; family members of an individual with ID/DD
  • Community members with experience in social services, business, finance, law enforcement, state or local political/government experience
  • Commitment to the goals of the agency
  • Ability to foster and cultivate consensus among diverse stakeholders

Description

The United Arc provides an array of flexible services for individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. During fiscal year 2015, The United Arc provided services to more than 500 individuals and families from 47 communities in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties, and in surrounding communities. We celebrated our 60th year serving citizens with disabilities in 2011.
