Strong Prison Wives & Families Inc. has helped thousands of women and their families start new lives by breaking the cycle, defying stigma and reducing recidivism. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) and registered Charity, providing a supportive and caring environment for women and families with these issues. Based in New Jersey, we have been providing a supportive global community for women and family members entering into life of what happens when a family member is incarcerated for more than 4 years. The Volunteer Board is recruiting community members who share the non-profits vision to lead the Community as it moves forward at a critical juncture in its long and successful history, and to participate in the varied organizational activities that underpin our non-profit. This is a very active period for the non-profit, and the Volunteer Board has committed to expanding itself in order to meet the non-profit’s needs.
Minimal requirements are a one-year commitment to attend monthly Volunteer Meetings via conference call, monthly Volunteer Committee Team Meetings via conference call and to engage in proactive measures to help us advance and strengthen the Society’s capacity to serve.

Mission Statement
To Provide a support network designed to help prison wives & families break the cycle, defy stigma & reduce recidivism.
Description
Our lives as a prison wives are not easy; in fact, they are probably the furthest thing from that. We sleep alone; spend holidays, birthdays and special occasions hundreds of miles from the men we love. We rely on a two hour email delay or sporadic fifteen minute phone calls to cram in everything we need to say. That includes a simple "I love you," which if you don't hear the warning "beeps," can easily get cut off. Every form of contact we share - phone calls, emails, visits, letters - is monitored. NOTHING we share is private, not even our single allotted hello & goodbye kiss. Yet, we still savor every moment we get to share with our loved one. I've been exposed to things that have given me nightmares and a genuine appreciation for my once sheltered life. I've met a cast of crazy -- and some frightening -- characters and hundreds of sweet, wonderful people along the way. There are so many things I've learned through my non-traditional life as a prison wife that I want to share with you. My love, optimism and support, in the form of this website, is my gift to you. -Ro Elizabeth, CEO SPWF
