As Senior Editor you will support Bible translation efforts around the world and use your skills to make an eternal impact. JAARS makes the work of Bible translation possible-especially in the most remote and difficult places on earth-through transportation, technology, media and training. Communicating our message well is crucial to engage individual partners and churches.

This is a .5 FTE position

Senior Editor

We are looking for a Senior Editor who will lead the editorial team in creating and maintaining all public content, including websites, social media, print and digital publications, letters, program materials, and more. This person will oversee every step of the process-from initial strategy to final edits-with an eye for telling the clear, inspiring, and cohesive story of JAARS.

Responsibilities

  • Create and enforce a style guide, approval process, best practices, and other guidelines.
  • Define the overarching strategy for each type of content, as well as how they fit together.
  • Keep track of all content with an ongoing editorial calendar.
  • Refine our content lineup in cooperation with the Vice President of Engagement.
  • Build and manage a team of writers.

Experience Desired

  • Degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in planning, writing, and editing a wide variety of content.
  • Experience in leading a creative team.
  • Experience in nonprofit communications.
  • Cross-cultural experience.

Minimum Skills

  • Strategic, holistic approach to content and storytelling, as demonstrated by past work.
  • Strong understanding of brand, messaging, and tone.
  • Ability to choose, train, manage, and inspire a creative team.
  • Ability to manage numerous projects, channels, and publications simultaneously.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.

JAARS is a multidisciplinary team of problem-solvers committed to the belief--and the vision--that people’s lives and communities are transformed as they experience God’s Word in their own language.

We are a community of full-time missionaries, dedicated volunteers, and a few employees who work together to accomplish the Great Commission goal of providing Scripture to every people group on earth in a language and form they clearly understand. We do that by supporting Bible translation and language development partners globally, and by working with prayer and financial partners in the United States to help make a range of unique on-the-field solutions possible.
