The Mustard Seed of Central Florida is a furniture and clothing bank that helps to rebuild the lives of families and individuals who have suffered disaster or personal tragedy by providing household furnishing and clothing while being environmentally responsible to our community. For the 2016-2017 year, we served over 3,500 clients with furniture and clothing. We served returning veterans, domestic abuse victims, drug rehab recoveries, homeless transitions, fire and natural disaster victims, medical hardships and the economically disadvantaged referred by over 150 partnering agencies.
Help The Mustard Seed of Central Florida help Central Florida families in need! We need "mattress warriors" to assist in deconstructing mattresses and box springs that people donate to us to help raise funds for The Mustard Seed and keep these large waste products from the landfill. The United States alone is estimated to throw out 50,000 mattresses a day-that’s 20 million mattresses a year! At 23 cubic feet per mattress, Americans are filling one-half billion square feet of landfill space a year with just mattresses. We are helping reduce that space, while also repurposing the mattress parts and giving them a new life.
We welcome individuals and groups to assist us and families in our warehouse to deconstruct mattresses. Volunteers are needed for shifts within the hours of 8am-5pm M-F, and on occasional Saturdays for groups with special accommodation. If your group is interested in volunteering on a weekend, please reach out to the volunteer coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org . We can accommodate groups of up to 100 people.
Must wear closed toed shoes and it is recommended to bring bottled water.
