The mission of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Kids, Inc. is to promote and support professionally trained court-appointed volunteers for children in need of safety and permanency, giving them the opportunity to thrive. Upon completion of training, a one (1) year commitment is required, providing 10 - 15 hours of service per month. In 2014, a total of 3,778 children came before our Juvenile Court jurisdictions in Sullivan and Hawkins Counties. The total number of children CASA could have potentially served through referrals to the Courts for Dependency & Neglect, Custody, Visitation or Physical and Sexual Abuse = 1,972. CASA for Kids, Inc. advocated for 20% of those children.
CASA role in the child welfare system:
- INVESTIGATE the child’s circumstances and submitting written findings to the Court
- ADVOCATE for needed services insuring the child’s needs for safety and well-being are met
- FACILITATE by linking a child and family with community resources and opening doors of communication
- MONITOR child’s situation being the "watchdog" of the Court regarding compliance with Court orders

Make a Difference in Your Community!
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
