The Animals and Society Institute's primary focus is on the academic field of Human-Animal Studies, a multidisciplinary academic field devoted to understanding more about humankind's complex relationship with animals. The ASI edits two academic journals and a book series devoted to the subject; sponsors a fellowship; and works with academics and institutions nationwide to develop courses, minors programs and more.
Our newest program, Animals & Public Policy, is dedicated to improving the lives of animals by advancing policy research and developing recommendations that lead to safer, more compassionate communities for all. ASI and its partners conduct research and create resources according to the Research Priorities identified annually by ASI that contribute to the formulation of strategies and policies to ensure compassionate policy for animals.
