Become a Public Health Ambassador for the Florida Department of Health in Lake County! We need energetic and engaged community members to bring the message of good health to their fellow citizens! Public Health Ambassadors will serve in a variety of roles with a variety of time commitments. Some may help out at outreach events such as the Lake County Fair, Pig on the Pond, and other festivals. Others might attend city council meetings and report back on what they found out about community goings-on that may have an effect on health. Others may be called upon to educate certain sectors of Lake County about Department of Health services and goals.

Position Duties:

Public Health Ambassadors serve a significant function in connecting people to services that can help them better their health and overall quality of life.
This position will require the volunteer to be familiar with the programs, services, and goals of the Florida Department of Health in Lake County. Ambassadors will take part in community outreach events and provide information about Department services, programs, and goals to the general community. Public Health Ambassadors may also serve to alert the Department of any public health need in their communities. This is accomplished through attending City Commission meetings or any other public meetings that discuss issues related to community health and wellness. Ambassadors will be also be called upon when public events such as fairs, festivals, or other outreach opportunities are taking place to staff tables and booths or otherwise conduct public health outreach.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of public health principles as well as Florida Department of Public Health in Lake County services and programs is helpful but not required. Ambassadors should have a friendly demeanor, good attitude, and be excellent public speakers. Ambassadors should be passionate about the mission and goals of FDOH-Lake.

Ambassadors should have access to transportation for traveling to and from community outreach sites. Volunteers must be reliable and be able to arrive on time to complete assigned shifts.

Training:
Volunteers will be required to complete various FDOH-Lake training requirements. In addition, they will be trained on various department programs and services and the benefits they provide to the overall community. Development of public speaking ability will also be provided as necessary.
