Each week, the Friends of the Public Library receives 10,000-12,000 items (books, vinyl, DVDs, etc) from both private donations and discards from the Public Library’s vast collection. We, in turn, sell these items through our warehouse/used book store, Friends’ Shop, online, and special sales throughout the year to raise money for special programs and unique purchases at the Library.

Volunteer sorters help us wade through the boxes of donated material, verifying that an item’s condition is worthy of sale and, if so, which section of the warehouse it belongs in.

Are you a good fit for this volunteer position? We’re looking for volunteers 18 years and older who are book lovers and are passionate about the programs and services offered through the Public Library of Cincinnati andHamiltonCounty. Our ideal fit possesses: critical thinking skills, ability to read and alphabetize, ability to work independently and in a team environment, basic customer service skills, ability to stand and walk for 2-3 hours, ability to lift 10-30 pounds, ability to push carts of 50+ pounds, and ability to bend, stoop, and squat in sometimes repetitive motions. Accommodations are made for those who may not meet the listed physical expectations.

When? Volunteers are needed Monday-Wednesday, 8am-3pm. Weekly 2-3 hour commitment most needed, but we will work with volunteer schedules on an individual basis.
