Painting the Color Wheel

Are you looking for a unique volunteer opportunity? Do you love animals, nature and working outdoors?

Located on 524 acres in Statesville, North Carolina, the Discovery Trail at Rocky Creek is an equine-accessible, multi-dimensional outdoor sensory experience intended to set an example as a best-in-class facility for experiential therapy and learning.

The generosity of volunteers allows us to elevate the care of our facility and animals; and implement, create and grow our educational and therapeutic programs. We are in search of individuals and groups who are interested in volunteering regularly or for full-day outings.

Volunteer activities may include but are not limited to: Trail Work [clean-up, development, blazing] * Trail Guide [when guests and clients are on-site] * Sensory Station and Habitat Development * Gardening * Construction/Repairs and Painting * Hay Production * Horse + Animal Care * Art Installations * Special Events * Community Outreach and Marketing * Promotion and Fundraising * Working with Therapeutic or EFL Clients [*requires additional training]

If you are unable to join us on The Discovery Trail for ongoing or on-site volunteer days, there are several fun and creative projects you and your school, scout, spiritual or business organization can do from home!

Build PlayHives * Create Sensory Bottles, Boxes and Boards * Build Fairy Villages * Build a Bowling Alley * Build our Braille-Birthday Board * Create a Giant Kaleidoscope * Create Painted Barn Quilts * Create an Outdoor Sculpture for an Art Installation

A plaque honoring those who create any of these items will be placed in the station(s); and plans/supplies may be provided by The Discovery Trail.

Volunteers must be at least 13 years of age (unless volunteering with a group). All interested volunteers must complete an application and brief orientation on-site.

The Discovery Trail is a project of Equuvation Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization, who aspires to promote innovation, education, collaboration and professional service delivery in any field of activity leveraging the horse-human connection.

The Discovery Trail at Rocky Creek is an equine-accessible, multi-dimensional outdoor sensory experience intended for therapeutic and educational use; located in Statesville, North Carolina. Featuring twenty-six sensory stations, a family-friendly Fit-Trail, and a "hands-on" Equine Lifecycle Experience, the Discovery Trail at Rocky Creek aims to set an example as a best-in-class facility for experiential therapy and learning; offering therapists, educators, parents, groups and equestrians an opportunity to expand the experience of their clients, children and themselves.
