The AmeriCorps Program at Springfield College recruits AmeriCorps members to support the academic and social-emotional success of students in the Springfield Public Schools.
The Massachusetts Reading Corps at Springfield College is seeking half-time and full-time Literacy Tutors to serve in pre-K classrooms in Springfield, MA. Literacy Tutors provide early literacy assessment, instruction, interventions, and support to children ages 3 to 5, ensuring that every child enters kindergarten ready to learn how to read.
As members of the AmeriCorps Program, Literacy Tutors are also required to:
- attend AmeriCorps orientation
- attend monthly member meetings
- attend the midyear training
- attend member development events
- maintain good academic standing
- assist with Humanics in Action Day
- complete a team service project
- participate in Opening Day, the annual kick-off of the AmeriCorps service year
- submit weekly journal entries
- submit biweekly timesheets
To be successful, candidates should possess most or all of the following: high moral and ethical standards; commitment to community service; ability to work independently; strong organizational and time management skills; knowledge of or experience working with diverse populations; experience working with youth ages 3 to 5, especially in an urban school setting; proficiency in online applications and platforms such as Google Drive; a high level of professionalism; strong interpersonal/relationship-building skills; ability to be flexible. Access to email is required. Ideal candidates will be able to serve five days a week, Monday through Friday.
These positions are ideal for current undergraduate/graduate students, recent graduates looking to complete a gap year, retired educators, career changers, stay-at-home parents/guardians, and anyone eager to serve their community.

As members of the Springfield College Student Success Corps, students live and share this mission, engaging in service that meets the critical educational needs of Springfield youth. Members serve in Springfield pre-schools, middle schools, and high schools, where they facilitate interventions and identify resources that target risk factors for dropping out, including poor early literacy skills, low attendance, behavioral problems, and course failure in English and math.

The AmeriCorps Program at Springfield College recruits AmeriCorps members to support the academic and social-emotional success of students in the Springfield Public Schools.
The AmeriCorps School Turnaround Initiative will place members in the city’s highest need schools in an effort to improve school and student performance. The Academic Support Specialist will serve in an elementary, middle, or high school, providing tutoring in math and/or English and implementing targeted interventions to improve academics, behavior, and attendance.
