An Adult Dog Raiser is a 7-day per week volunteer position. The main role of the Adult Dog Raiser is to ensure the dog is attending their advance training. As an Adult Dog Raiser, you must bring the dog every morning (Monday to Friday) and pick up every afternoon at our training centre, located in Warman. When not in school, the dog is by your side; you will work as a team in an environment including offices, malls, restaurants, downtown areas, elevators and public transportation, reinforcing the skills and attitude of a service dog in-training.

The ultimate goal is to help the dog in developing sufficuent social and advanced training skills to behave in such a manner that its presence will be acceptable in all circumstances. Our training staff will oversee this program; they will support you in the continued development of the dog by assessing and assisting in their progress. We have temporary boarding homes available to help you, the Adult Dog Raiser, when the dog is not able to accompany you, such as during vacations or personal circumstrances.

Pawsitive Independence will provide dog food and cover veterinary expenses provided that they are not a result of neglience and a one-time issue of training equipment. Adult Dog Raisers are expected to provide bedding, toys and treats for training and may also incur minor cost associated with training (movie ticket, public transit, etc.) for which they are responsible.

Critieria for Our Adult Dog Raising Program:

  • you must be able to bring the dog to the training centre Monday to Friday, excluding holidays
  • the dog must live in the home as a member of the family
  • you are requested to assist at events and/or presentations throughout the year
  • you must be able to commit to raising the adult dog for 8 - 12 months.
