Always wanted to make a difference in your community?
Become an involved citizen and meet interesting San Franciscans! This is your opportunity to help make government more efficient and effective. The duty of the Civil Grand Jury is to investigate the operations of the City & County's officers, departments, and agencies.
Each Grand Jury chooses its own methodology as well as the areas that they investigate. During investigations, jurors may inspect and audit books, records and financial expenditures; interview civil servants and others who have pertinent information; inspect government facilities, and issue reports with findings and recommendations.
After the report has been review by the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court, the reports are sent to the affected department heads that are then required by law to respond.
Civil Grand Jury members must be able to serve for a 1 year term, from July through June. Work is done both during and after regular business hours. Members will receive a $15 per diem for each meeting attended during the term.
Interested volunteers must apply. Applications may be downloaded from http://civilgrandjury.sfgov.org/join.html
