Looking for a fun community event to volunteer at this spring? City Blossoms, a Washington DC based non-profit committed to kid-driven, community engaging and creative green spaces, is seeking volunteers to help us get the Girard Children's Community Garden ready for the spring growing season. This Community Green Space is home City Blossoms' free, weekly garden-based programming known as Open Times.
In order to have this space ready for our first week of programming (April 10th), we will be working with volunteers and community members on a number of tasks. The work will include pulling out old raised beds and installing new ones, spreading compost and mulch, planting, weeding, and re-establishing some of the garden's in-ground sections. The Columbia Heights Community Center will also be hosting an Egg Hunt and BBQ in the park at the same time of this event. There will be plenty of food, music, and tasks for everyone, so groups of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join!
Please dress in old work clothes and closed toe shoes. Everyone is encouraged to bring a water bottle. We will provide tools and snacks! Please keep in mind that we will work rain or shine.
Interested? E-mail us at nicole@cityblossoms.org for more information!
