Up2Us Sports New Orleans VISTA Leader

Up2Us is leading a movement to advance sports as a solution to the critical issues facing disadvantaged youth in this country: childhood obesity, academic failure, and gang participation. We are a national coalition of 1,100 members (and growing!) who are providers, practitioners, intermediaries, researchers, and funders. Our vision is that someday all youth, regardless of socioeconomic background, will be able to participate in organized sports programs that teach them to succeed on the field, in the classroom, and in life. VISTA members will play a powerful role in building Up2Us Sports into the nation's best vehicle for youth development, volunteerism, and nonprofit collaboration. As the VISTA Leader, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to Up2Us programmatically by developing new initiatives and resources to increase capacity at Up2Us Sports New Orleans member sports programs.

Member Duties :The ideal VISTA Leader will be a self-starter and extremely organized, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, have the ability to motivate and inspire his/her peers, and feel comfortable as a member of a small, close-knit team. In this role, you will develop and implement a structure and systems that will support our VISTA members in New Orleans. Specifically, you will lead meet-ups facilitate idea-sharing and best practice communication; ensure positive relationships between VISTA members and their host sites; provide in-service training opportunities and professional development workshops; facilitate effective communication and progress reporting between Up2Us, host sites, and CNCS; and coach VISTA members on AmeriCorps processes such as food stamps, loan forbearance and deferment, and accessing/using the Education Award.
