Raising A Reader is a national nonprofit organization serving more than 120,000 children and families each year. As volunteers, you will be helping prepare and ship materials for our 2,700 implementation sites across the US.
Activities vary based on need, but can include:
- Assembly of special collections
- Stickering/labeling books
- Placing tags on the bags
- Assembly of training manuals
- ...and more
Individuals and small groups are encouraged to sign up for a two-hour shift between 10AM - 4PM on December 14 to help package materials for shipment.

Mission Statement
RAR helps children and families aged 0-8 develop, practice and maintain home-based literacy routines critical for school success.
Description
Through a network of more than 2,700 community partners (school systems, libraries, community agencies and others) across 34 states, in 2015 alone we reached nearly 130,000 children and families.
Since our inception in 1999, we have helped more than 1.25 million families build and maintain reading routines in their homes, with special attention to those at highest-risk for educational failure.
Develop- Raising A Reader helps parents develop the habit of sharing books through RAR’s train the trainer model.
Practice-To practice the habit of sharing books, each week children bring home a bright red book bags filled with award-winning books.
Maintain- Raising A Reader connects families to libraries to maintain the habit of borrowing and sharing books.
