Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Fundación Yepez A.C.

  • 9 people are interested

Thousands of endangered sea turtles nest on our beautiful beaches during nesting season (March to November, although we do accept volunteers throughout the year for other environmental porgrams) and we work in many different ways to conserve and protect them. Whilst most of the work is hands on work on the beach, such as patrolling, protecting, nest marking, data collection and rescue, there are also many other tasks such as administration that we need help with at our centre. We run reforestation projects, community projects, environmental education and recycling programs, so variety is definitely part of the job.

Fundaci?n Yepez A.C. is a non-profit organization that has been protecting sea turtles in veracruz Mexico for 50 years. The organization is a small grassroots NGO and we need all the help we can get to be able to protect this endangered species and implement all of the eco-projects that we run. We are looking for volunteers for a minimum of 2 months and there is no fee to volunteer with us. Shorter stays are welcome but include a fee, so please get in touch if you are interested. The cost for food (3 meals a day prepared by onsite staff and accommodation is USD$85/week, there is no other fee, however all other expenses such as travel etc. must be covered by the volunteer. Please find more information about us on our website www.tortugasfundacionyepez.com (English/Volunteers) and contact us with any questions you might have on info@tortugasfundacionyepez.com. The only requirements are good health, good attitude, independency and a desire to help protect sea turtles and their environment and of course being in Mexico, speaking Spanish helps a lot!

We initiate and fulfill and conservation projects, community projects, environmental education, mangrove and endemic tree reforestation and organize projects such as beach clean ups.

Description

All of our projects are implemented through methods that are sustainable and environmentally friendly . Our main objective is the protection and conservation of sea turtles on the Gulf coast of Veracruz in Mexico. We patrol a total of 43 km to protect and care for sea turtles that come to lay their eggs on our sanctuary. The nests that are found in dangerous areas are oved to safety and protected until they hatch. This way we can help protect this endangered species.

There is perhaps no creature more global than the sea turtle, with a shared responsibility of people all over the world. Traveling across all the great oceans, they lay their eggs on beaches around the world. The small baby turtles emerge from the sand on these shores, and if they are lucky enough to reach adulthood, they embark on journeys that mark thousands of miles and many international waters. We invite you to come visit us to learn about the work we do, about the turtles and to help us protect our environment. We invite you to visit us to learn about the work we do and to learn about the last dinosaurs on our planet earth - the sea turtles. We invite you to become a part of our project and to help us care for our beautiful blue planet.
