Mission Statement
The Palm Beach Maritime Museum is striving to preserve the unique path history has taken in the Palm Beach area. The Museum places emphasis on historical artifacts, the regional marine environment, and personalities that were a result of, and greatly shaped that history.
Description
The Palm Beach Maritime Museum (PBMM) is a non-profit organization funded through public and private grants as well as a variety of charitable contributions.
The main mission of our museum is to work in close coordination with museum-sponsored formal education programs providing enhancement of those programs with interactive exhibits, significant artifacts, displays and simulation. Equally important is providing rich and rewarding educational experiences for the general public.
The PBMM operates two public facilities: Currie Park Site with exhibits, gift shop and docks for a ferry boat which provides public embarkation to Peanut Island where the museum's property of about 5 acres contains the historic ready Boathouse and Coast Guard Station and the fascinating and internationally important Cold War artifact, the President John F. Kennedy bomb shelter available to him and his entourage during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Coast Guard Station restoration was achieved partly through grants from the State of Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation and Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND). The Currie Park museum building and docks were built by the museum with partial support by grants from FIND. The two facilities are connected by a ferry boat service.
