The Lowline is an organization dedicated to building the world's first underground park in an abandoned trolley terminal in the Lower East Side. The Lowline Lab is a long-term open laboratory and technical exhibit designed to test and showcase how the Lowline will grow and sustain plants underground while serving as a catalyst for public engagement. Built inside an abandoned market on the Lower East Side, just two blocks from the site of the proposed future Lowline, the Lowline Lab includes a series of controlled experiments in an environment mimicking the actual Lowline site.
We are using our experimental Lab space to gauge community involvement in the Lowline. Part of this experiment includes staging various events, generally on weekends but sometimes on weekday evenings, to determine how different experiences work in the Lowline. This includes activations as varied as a cheese tasting, educational tours, yoga, tai chi, dance, and more. We need talented volunteer photographers and videographers who can help us cover these events. This might include individuals who want to build out their portfolios and can benefit from the exposure the Lowline can offer them, or it might be individuals who are very passionate about our cause and want to use their skills to help make the Lowline a reality. Regardless of a given artist's motivations, we can promise them a fun time as part of a great team. Generally speaking, we are fine with individuals coming to the Lowline strictly to take photographs of our events as they occur. This would normally require a 1-1.5 hour commitment on a Saturday or a Sunday, and it can be arranged on a session by session basis - we do not require any kind of minimum commitment, though we would prefer to work with people who can help on a somewhat consistent basis. This is a great opportunity to build exposure for your work while serving a fun, innovative cause. Please, when you respond could you: send any links to your work, give me an idea of your background in photography (if any), let me know what interests you the most in regards to shooting, if you have experience shooting in low light situations, and if you own your own equipment.More opportunities with UNDERGROUND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
