Denver 4-H

Are you interested in learning more about youth and/or program development? Do you want to impact thousands of youth throughout the metro Denver area? Denver 4-H is the Youth Development Department of the Colorado State University Extension Office. We serve our diverse, urban community utilizing passionate adult leaders in community clubs, school enrichment, special programs, events and out-of-school activities. In 4-H, we are interested in supporting those passionate adults in a partnership with young people, working to achieve their potential. While adults help youth, we often find the adults see their own interests and passions come alive when working alongside a child.

Denver 4-H is seeking self-motivated interns interested in helping us develop our curriculum and facilitate our summer and after-school youth programs throughout metro Denver. Applicants able to utilize research to compile advertising materials (brochures, videos, etc.) are preferred. Interns will get the opportunity to work with a variety of our staff in multiple areas related to youth development.

What we require:
-Application on 4HOnline
-Background Check
-4H Orientation/Training
-Strong communication skills, self-motivated, and organized intern
-Interest in working with a diverse group of individuals

Our internship programs are greatly customizable, as we want you, the intern, to get the most out of the experience as possible. Through this internship you will have a direct link to Colorado State University and multiple professional development opportunities. You will also have the chance to work in both a professional environment and out in the field with youth, enabling you to network with our many community partners.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Extension is to provide information and education, and encourage the application of research-based knowledge in response to local, state, and national issues affecting individuals, youth, families, agricultural enterprises, and communities of Colorado. 4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.

Description

4-H began a century ago as an educational program for the nation's rural youth. Today, 4-H meets the needs of and engages young people in positive youth development experiences. These experiences are based on the idea that young people should be regarded as resources to be developed. 2010 marked the state centennial of 4-H in Colorado and a renewed commitment to helping shape youth and communities. In looking to the next century, 4-H further develops its programs and continues its motto of "Making the Best Better."

Tech Wizards is a national youth mentoring program providing instruction in emerging technologies, with the goals of increasing life skills such as youth social competency, family relationships and academic success and workforce readiness. CSU Denver Extension 4-H houses Tech Wizards in the Denver area to provide community-based Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STREAM) education programs with a mentoring aspect to serve at-risk youth. The program relies on mentors who lead classes, engaging youth interest in science and emerging technologies to encourage them to apply learning to their STREAM academic instruction and future goals.
