ORGANIZATION: CSU Extension Denver 4-H Youth Programs

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 12 people are interested

On Thursday, April 27 th (from 10:30am-11:30am), Colorado 4-H Agents, staff, and volunteers will team up with the Colorado Rockies, 9News, and others will be leading thousands of metro area students in a baseball, weather and science day.

  • Channel 9News will help to market the event beforehand, MC the event from the stage on the field, and video the action so that we can share the awesome experiments with others later.
  • Scientist extraordinaire, Steve Spangler will be facilitating a Bernoulli Principle experiment, and launch items for the finale.
  • We (4-H) are designing a Science-on-a-Stick product for each of the approximately 10,000 in attendance, which will have STEM activities and experiments that connect to baseball. 9News and Steve Spangler will have about 15 minutes of presentation time, and Colorado 4-H will fill its 15 minutes with a couple of experiments on the Science-on-a-Stick.

That is why we need you! We need as many people who know the importance of learning by doing, hands-on education and positive youth development as possible to help setup the event before all of the students arrive at Coors Field, and then guide them, in their seats and sections, so they can follow along as the MC leads on the field.

If you can join us for a Science Day at Coors Field, we will make sure you have some breakfast food,A TICKET TO WATCH THE ROCKIES TAKE ON THE WASHINGTON NATIONALS, and (with luck) a t-shirt that identifies you as someone who knows the importance of 4-H.

Can you join us? Will you help us engage thousands of students with STEM, baseball and tons of fun? If so, please click on the following link, and please pass this email on to any other volunteers, friends, co-workers etc. who would be interested as well. We will confirm with all interested parties during the week of March 20 th.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Extension is to provide information and education, and encourage the application of research-based knowledge in response to local, state, and national issues affecting individuals, youth, families, agricultural enterprises, and communities of Colorado. 4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.

Description

4-H began a century ago as an educational program for the nation's rural youth. Today, 4-H meets the needs of and engages young people in positive youth development experiences. These experiences are based on the idea that young people should be regarded as resources to be developed. 2010 marked the state centennial of 4-H in Colorado and a renewed commitment to helping shape youth and communities. In looking to the next century, 4-H further develops its programs and continues its motto of "Making the Best Better."

Tech Wizards is a national youth mentoring program providing instruction in emerging technologies, with the goals of increasing life skills such as youth social competency, family relationships and academic success and workforce readiness. CSU Denver Extension 4-H houses Tech Wizards in the Denver area to provide community-based Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STREAM) education programs with a mentoring aspect to serve at-risk youth. The program relies on mentors who lead classes, engaging youth interest in science and emerging technologies to encourage them to apply learning to their STREAM academic instruction and future goals.
