Volunteer to Tutor English as a Second Language
34 people are interested
Tutors help non-English-speaking adults learn to speak, understand, read and write English. Locations include county libraries, churches and community centers all across San Diego County. (See website for map with addresses of tutoring locations and times. www.laubachsandiego.org.)
No experience is necessary, but volunteers should be fluent in written and spoken English. A 12-hour training, conducted on two consecutive Saturdays, is held several times a year for new volunteers. Details are on the website listed above. The training and teaching materials are provided free of charge to volunteers.
Volunteers should be accepting of other cultures and provide positive, encouraging feedback to their student(s), adapting to the learners' ability and needs. Instruction is one-on-one or in small groups, depending on the location. Some sites meet at specific times; some libraries allow the student and tutor to choose their time and use a study room. Evening or weekend times are available at some sites. It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule.
