The Starfish Foundation, Ecuador

The Starfish Foundation is seeking a Blog Coordinator Volunteer to promote our mission and vision through our weekly Wordpress blog. This will include writing and laying out posts with information and photographs from the organization. Additionally, the coordinators will promote the blog on our primary social media channels. This is a great opportunity for anyone with online writing and social media experience who would like to support Ecuadorian youth on the path to a better future!

WHERE: FLEXIBLE. The Starfish Foundation's U.S. operations are based in Baltimore, MD but location of the volunteer is flexible. If outside of Baltimore regular phone and email communication with the directors will be expected.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITITES:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the mission, vision, values and goals of The Starfish Foundation
  • Work closely with the Communication team, Ecuador and U.S. Directors, and Development staff to brainstorm content.
  • Write posts twice a month for our blog on Wordpress.
  • Promote blog content on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Assist in the management of the Wordpress account.
  • Conduct research and edit photos as necessary.

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • A passion for education and youth in Latin America
  • A genuine interest in blogging
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Creative problem solving skills

WORKING HOURS: Working hours and goals will be set up based on individual tasks. On average the coordinators can expect to volunteer 1-3 hours/week.

DURATION OF POSITION: This is a year-round position, ideally with a commitment of 6-12 months to start, with the option of continuing at the discretion of the volunteer and Starfish. Please note: applications for are due January 26, 2017.

Description

The Starfish Foundation coordinates three main programs in Flor de BastiĆ³n in Guayaquil, Ecuador: scholarship, tutoring and leadership development. The Starfish Foundation distributes scholarships in the form of all books, uniforms and materials required by the school. Students earn their scholarship based on participation in our tutoring program, motivation to study and economic need. All Scholarship students participate in tutoring. Other students from the neighborhood are also invited to participate in tutoring to receive academic help and have the chance to earn a scholarship for the following year. All of our students, to demonstrate their commitment to their studies as well as their social commitment to their community, participate in community service and leadership development workshops.
