Mission Statement

It is the purpose and mission Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. to break the cycle of poverty by coordinating available resources, in a structured manner, to affect the economic and other causes of poverty in the Macon-Bibb County area. It is further the purpose and mission of the agency to identify barriers to individual and family self-sufficiency and focus all available resources toward an elimination of these barriers; therby, enabling low-income individuals to obtain the skills, knowledge and motivation to-extricate themselves from their poverty condition.

The Foster Grandparent Program offers seniors age 55 and older the opportunity to serve as mentors, tutors, and loving caregivers for youth with special and/or exceptional needs. If you are interested in serving as a Foster Grandparent, you must meet income eligibility guidelines, which will allow you to receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering.

Foster Grandparents are needed to serve 30-40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, in one-on-one activities to assist youth in moving towards set goals in Macon, GA.

Other benefits include reimbursement for transportation, some meals or meal reimbursement during service, annual physical assistance, and accident and liability insurance. Pre-Service orientation and monthly training sessions provided.
