Oliver Mansion at The History Museum

Do you like older houses, local history, and talking with people? The History Museum provides daily tours of its Oliver Mansion (Copshaholm) and Worker’s Home, and is seeking docents interested in giving guided tours of the historic houses. Docents can volunteer on either a regular or as-needed basis. In-depth information about the architecture and furnishings of the Oliver Mansion (Copshaholm) as well as the Oliver family, Oliver Chilled Plow Works, and the Historic West Washington District is provided in a training course. In addition to the training, volunteers receive complimentary continuing education and opportunities to visit historic sites in the community. An added benefit is the friendships formed with staff and other volunteers. The 38-room Oliver Mansion was home to the J. D. Oliver family, owners of the Oliver Chilled Plow Works. A house museum with all furnishings original to the home, the mansion can be seen as it looked when the family lived there. For information, contact Stephanie McCune-Bell, Volunteer & Interpretations Manager, at (574) 235-9664, ext. 241 or smccunebell@historymuseumSB.org
