Mission Be Mindful Education is a Not-for-Profit Organization bringing Mindfulness to schools and communities. Mindful Education is a science based method used in schools to increase focus, self-awareness,and self-regulation. The results are reflected in improved test scores, less bullying, and a happier school community.

Why Children Need Mindfulness

  • Many children are under chronic academic, social and emotional pressure and need tools to manage this stress and become more resilient.

  • Every year 4 million children are diagnosed with ADHD, and half of them are prescribed and take medication into adulthood.

  • By age 12, one in four children are bullied at school.

  • One in eight children are affected by anxiety disorders.

Mission Be Freelance Educator Needs - Mission Be is seeking ten educators dedicated to helping children learn how to de-stress, focus, and regulate their emotions.

Mission Be Educators join a team of professionals at an internationally recognized organization.

Educators will teach Mission Be mindfulness practices such as interactive lessons on the science of mindfulness, guided breathing practices, role plays, affirmations, and mindful sitting, walking, eating, listening and speaking exercises.

We are looking for Educators who are willing to teach our programs in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. We are also looking for two Westchester based Educators.

Educator opportunities include in-school curriculum, professional development training programs for teachers, summer camp, and parent mindful workshops. Mission Be programs can take place during the school day or weekends, depending upon the program.

Required Skills

Candidates must be at least 25 years of age and must have experience teaching young people (graduate degree in teaching preferred) through interactive lessons.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be passionate and dedicated to improving the well-being of young people.

  • Possess excellent communication skills

  • Be responsible and self-motivated

  • Be in a position to seek a professional development opportunity with Mission Be. This position should not be viewed as a reliable part-time source of income.

  • Work well with others as part of a team

  • Be comfortable with professional observation and regular feedback

  • At least two years experience teaching children in academic or recreational settings a plus.

Applicants must either be trained in mindfulness education and capable of delivering the Mission Be curriculum, or be willing to attend a two day Mission Be weekend training session in New York City in January 2015. Training dates and times will posted on our website in the coming weeks. The cost of the training program is $300.

Applicants accepted as Mission Be Educators will be invited to join the Mission Be team.

Mission Be Freelance Educator Compensation

$30 / hour

An 18 hour intensive mindful education training presented by Mission Be for classroom teachers, school administrators, social workers, psychologists, counselors, meditation, yoga and movement instructors, and others working with youth or seeking to expand their practice to incorporate young people.

Our Solution Mindfulness Based Social Emotional Learning. Mission Be’s offers mindfulness based educational programs to train for students to better manage stress and regulate emotions. Mindfulness can be described as the practice of paying attention in the present moment, and doing it intentionally and with non-judgment.

Expected immediate outcomes based on this research for our mindfulness programs for students and educators include reduced stress and improved physical well-being, increased focus, improved emotion regulation, increased emotional intelligence, increased empathy and respect, and increased resilience and self confidence.
