PLACEMENT PURPOSE
The American Red Cross - New Jersey Region is committed to a multi-year national Home Fire Campaign (HFC), which aims to reduce home fire death and injury rates by 25 over 5 years. Launched in October 2014 the HFC in NJ will target neighborhoods at-risk for home fires by installing & testing smoke alarms, providing fire safety & preparedness education to its residents. As a volunteer HFC Educator/Documenter you will work as part of an Install Strike Team (IST) made up of at least 2-3 volunteers & will be active in advising residents on how to make a Fire Escape Plan, reviewing causes of fires and how to better prepare and protect a home from fire. We will build multiple IST's throughout the Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) territories in the NORTH, CENTRAL & SOUTH of NJ.

OPEN TIME DAYS

Primary need: Any weekday during normal business hours - 1 day a week

Secondary need: Weekends 5-6 hours - 1 weekend day per month

REQUIRED TRAINING
  • American Red Cross Volunteer Orientation
  • General Preparedness Overview Orientation (can be done remotely)
  • Fire Safety Education/Documentation Training workshop (12 hours)
  • Disaster Cycle Services: An Overview (online recommended, but optional)
