PLACEMENT PURPOSE
External Relations coordinates the services of and provides necessary liaison activities with government and private agencies. The Community Partnerships Activity ensures interests, needs, concerns and resources of individuals and organizations representing a broad array of groups are represented on a disaster.

OPEN TIME DAYS
24 hours to get started then varies depending on major disaster activity or disaster exercises (usually once or twice a year)

REQUIRED TRAINING
  • To start out (all courses free of charge):

    • Orientation to the American Red Cross (online self-study)
    • CPR & First Aid (8 hour classroom or 4 hour blended learning)
    • Disaster Services: An Overview (4 hour classroom)
    • Collaborating Essentials (6 hour classroom)

    To become a Community Partners Service Associate (all courses free of charge):

    • In-Kind Donations Workshop (8 hour classroom)
    • Shelter Fundamentals (4 hour classroom)
    • The Role of Voluntary Agencies in Emergency Management Participation, FEMA IS-288 (10 hour self-study; materials available free of charge at http://www.training.fema.gov/IS/)

    To become a Supervisor (all courses free of charge):

    • Disaster Frontline Supervisor & Simulation (8 hour classroom)
    • Disaster Operations Control: Form 5266 Fundamentals (2 hour online self-study)
    Disaster Public Affairs for National Relief Operations (4 hour webinar)
