ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Central & Southern Ohio

PLACEMENT PURPOSE
To provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, primarily house fires, ensuring victims have basic necessities such as shelter, clothing and food.

OPEN TIME DAYS

  • DAT Volunteers are asked to cover a minimum of a one week  oncall  shift per month.
  • ( Oncall  is defined as a volunteer making him/herself available to respond to disasters during the shift in which he/she signed up. Volunteers must be available to arrive at chapter within 30 minutes after initial phone call from DAT Leader.)
  • Volunteers are strongly encouraged to sign up for multiple shifts in the first three (3) months of volunteering to increase the opportunities to participate in DAT runs
If bilingual, volunteer may be asked to utilize skills on an  on-call  basis for client assistance; hours may vary

REQUIRED TRAINING
  • Orientation to the American Red Cross
  • Disaster Services: An Overview
  • Disaster Action Team Orientation
  • Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance
  • Psychological First Aid
  • Disaster Assessment Basics
Refresher courses may be required; ongoing training may be required as required by department or updated course material
