The Salvation Army of Cape Fear has 3 Family Stores that are furnished with tax deductible donations of clothes, toys, books, shoes, furniture, and other household items. These high quality items are not only available to the community at discounted prices but also assist those seeking emergency assistance. The profits go to support The Salvation Army of Cape Fear Red Shield Center of Hope and local families in crisis.
Volunteers are needed to help with donated items. Donated clothing needs to be presorted and made available in the store. Volunteers can also assist organize and cleaning with household items and furniture.

Job Title: Clothing Inventory Associate
Reports To: Family Store Manager

SUMMARY
The Clothing Inventory Associate is responsible for presorting clothing according to gender, item (pants, shirt, skirt), and get rid of stained, torn, snagged, fade, tears, missing buttons items.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Presort clothing according to gender and item
  • Follow criteria for sellable or recycled clothing
  • Hang clothing on racks in size order
  • Deliver clothing racks to clothing room to be put in store
  • Able to stand for long periods of time

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to carry up to 25 pounds
  • Commit to a time Monday through Saturday (store hours vary by location)

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information on a one to one basis to other employees. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the volunteer is regularly required to stand and walk. The volunteer must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position takes place in the warehouse. While performing the duties of his/her job, the volunteer is frequently exposed to extreme cold and potentially extreme heat and must dress appropriately. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

DRESS CODE
Volunteers are required to wear closed toe shoes, shirt with sleeves, and pants or skirt/shorts not shorted than knee length.

TIME COMMITMENT EXPECTED
Volunteers are asked to commit to one regularly scheduled shift every week, or every two weeks. One shift is typically a morning (from 9am to 12:30am) or an afternoon (from 1pm to 4:30pm).

The assistance that has been given throughout the years has changed but the volunteer "army" behind The Salvation Army has not. The Salvation Army could not have offered any of those services without the help of great volunteers like you.
