ORGANIZATION: Kinship Greater Twin Cities

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 15 people are interested

Our program provides mentors to children ages 5-18 who need additional support in their lives. Our mentors range in age from college age to active retirees. They commit to weekly visits with their mentees for a minimum of one year with many of our mentors lasting more than 10 years. They have a huge impact on the kids and their entire families.

We are looking for a reliable volunteer to help us acknowledge our mentees on their birthdays. It is one way we acknowledge and celebrate our youth. For more information call the Kinship office at 612-276-1558 or email us at kinshipinfo@gmcc.org.

Mission Statement

Kinship Greater Twin Cities believes that every young person needs a role model. Kinship youth are matched with community mentors who foster supportive, holistic, and authentic relationships. Mentors and mentees are carefully matched based on common interests, aspirations and, when desired, faith connections. Kinship believes that the mentoring relationship is a mutually beneficial opportunity for all parties to grow. Kinship commits to providing resources and opportunities for youth and their families throughout the greater Twin Cities.

Description

Kinship actively invites individuals, couples and families into mentoring relationships with boys and girls ages 5-15. Focused on building lasting friendships through fun activities and quality time, the mentoring program creates sustained, supportive connections capable of giving youth the life skills they need to succeed. Kinship's mentoring model requires mentors to spend 2-4 hours per week with their mentee and are encouraged to participate in community events and activities centered around the youth's interests. Discovering new experiences together is also encouraged, opening the door for academic, social, and emotional growth. Life skills and work preparedness are also essential to our mentoring model, as well as optimism for the future and healthy living.
