We're an innovative legal aid nonprofit that believes everyone should be able to enforce all their civil rights - and we're inviting committed volunteers with legal training to join us in making that a reality. We work in the highest need neighborhoods of San Francisco, helping people with legal issues in over three dozen practice areas. Right now, we're specifically looking for help in housing, immigration, employment, and estate planning.
We offer the ability to get practical, hands on experience working with low-income clients in a variety of circumstances. We'll teach you substantive law, client management techniques, and procedure in a fast-paced and high-tech environment. Qualified volunteers will manage their own cases, do their own hearings, and negotiate with adverse party under the training and supervision of our staff.
We offer our volunteers free access to PLI trainings (which give MCLE credit), flexible hours, deep experience, and the ability to have a big impact in the lives of our city's most marginalized residents.
To volunteer, fill out our online application at bhpcommunitylegal.org/volunteer

Mission Statement
Open Door Legal is pioneering universal access to civil legal representation and showing that when everyone has access to the law, poverty can be dramatically reduced.
Description
"It always seems impossible until it’s done." - Nelson Mandela
We believe that even the biggest problems can be broken down into small, achievable steps. Poverty and access to justice are part of the same problem. And to solve this, we just need to discover what the steps are.
At Open Door Legal, we’re pioneering the country’s first system of universal access to civil legal representation to dramatically reduce poverty and prove that the law really can belong to all of us.
To achieve this ambitious goal, we’ve created an award-winning and best-in-class legal aid organization full of passionate, dynamic, gritty, quixotic, and team-oriented people.
We believe that injustice is the heart of poverty and we're looking for someone to join us in having a systemic impact on how we, as a society, ensure justice for all.
