Be at the frontlines to protect and expand civil liberties in Maryland! The ACLU of Maryland seeks volunteers for our intake/complaint line year-round. The intake/complaint line hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm.

Volunteers will be trained to discern civil liberties issues from other legal matters and investigate significant civil rights/civil liberties violations or provide referrals to appropriate legal resources.

Volunteers must be available during at least one of the complaint line shift hours, on Tuesdays, from 12:45pm to 3:00pm, and/or Thursdays, from 12:45pm to 3:00pm, for a period of at least three months.

Volunteers should have excellent communication skills, confidence, patience, and a healthy sense of humor. They should also be comfortable interacting with individuals from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds with a wide range of needs. Familiarity with the ACLU's mission, knowledge of current civil liberties and civil rights issues, and proficiency in a second language preferred.
