The South San Francisco Public Library is more than just books; we provide a variety of services and collections in 3 locations to meet the educational, recreational and informational needs of the diverse community of South San Francisco. The library continually strives to accommodate the informational, recreational and educational needs of our community and is constantly updating.

After School Tutor

Job Location: 520 Tamarack Lane, South San Francisco.

Community Need Addressed by volunteer's service: Volunteers provide homework help and form positive relationships with children who need good role models.

Job Description: Volunteers help children in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade with their homework. Interested volunteers can also lead special projects, activities, or teach games.

Qualifications/Skills Needed: Must enjoy being with kids and have a positive and supportive attitude. Volunteers should feel comfortable helping kids figure out homework and solve problems; however, they do not need to know the latest ways of teaching a subject. Volunteers must attend a 45 minute orientation and be fingerprinted.

Time Commitment Needed: At least 2 hours (one day)/week for minimum of 3 months.

RSVP is administered by the Corporation for National & Community Service, the federal agency that supports service and volunteering programs to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement. We serve all of San Mateo County and the cities of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View. Palo Alto, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills in Santa Clara County.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

RSVP provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, pre-service orientation, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
