THCR Board Member Job Requirements

The responsibilities of a Two Harbors Community Radio Board member begin with these fundamental legal obligations:
Duty of care: Board members are expected to actively participate in organizational planning and decision-making and to make sound and informed judgments.
Duty of loyalty: When acting on behalf of the organization, board members must put the interests of the nonprofit before any personal or professional concerns and avoid potential conflicts of interest.
Duty of obedience: Board members must ensure that the organization complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and that it remains committed to its established mission.
Additionally, a THCR Board member will:
Support the work of THCR through mission-based leadership and strategic governance
Serve as advisor to KTWH staff as they develop and implement THCR’s strategic plan
Participate in the ongoing development of mechanisms for evaluating THCR’s impact
Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
Participate in at least one KTWH committee
Provide fiscal oversight of THCR, including the development and approval of THCR’s annual budget and related reports
Assist in identifying and recruiting other Board Members and other volunteers
Represent THCR to stakeholders; act as an ambassador for the organization
Ensure THCR’s commitment to a diverse Board and staff that reflects the THCR community
Consider THCR a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority, commensurate with their capacity and assist in grantmaking and fundraising projects/campaigns of THCR
Serve a 2 year term (eligible for re-election for up to 4 additional terms)
Attend monthly Board meetings
Develop leadership capacity in business, government, philanthropy, education, the nonprofit sector or other areas deemed beneficial to THCR and personal qualities of integrity and credibility
Serve on THCR’s Board of Directors without remuneration, except for certain travel and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties as approved by Board action
Act as trustee of the organization's assets and ensure that the nonprofit is well managed and remains fiscally sound
Exercise proper oversight of the organization's operations and maintain the legal and ethical accountability of its staff and volunteers
Participate in public events on behalf of THCR and KTWH

Two Harbors Community Radio provides low power listener-supported radio to build community in the greater Two Harbors area through inter-generational grassroots participation. Two Harbors Community Radio offers an open forum for all voices to be heard in an atmosphere of respectful inquiry into our shared social issues and respective cultural expressions and beliefs.
Description
Two Harbors Community Radio services include:
- Local news, community announcements and emergency management information
- A medium for local creative arts expression and coverage of community and school events
- A forum for exchange of information, opinions, and ideas
- Information for visitors to our area to enhance their experience on the North Shore
- Opportunities for multi-generational listener participation in all aspects of community radio
