About Us

Do you know what harmful contaminants are in your water? How it gets there? What effect it has on your families and environment? Save the Water(tm) (STW(tm)) is the one looking for answers.

STW(tm) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to conduct water research to identify and remove harmful contaminants in water; and to raise public awareness about water contamination and its health impacts. STW also offers educational programs to excite young minds about water science.

Our volunteers are diverse professionals from all over the world bringing their knowledge and experience to STW because we care deeply about our communities and water resources. Save the Water(tm) is currently seeking for a Technology Associate: Wordpress Theme Developer who thrives in an environment that recognizes excellence in creativity, and execution. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated individual that is passionate about working with our different teams within the Technology department (UX Design & Development, Webmasters) to help develop the website.

Associates are expected to put in a minimum of 5 hours per week and be responsive to emails within three (3) calendar days.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Report to Project Leader for the given project team

  • Attend monthly Technology meeting.

  • Complete the PWR at least on weekly minimum basis

  • Assist the Technology team and the Organization with developing and modifying Wordpress themes and plugins.

  • Design and implement new features, enhancements to the existing website.


  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.

  • Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with the public.

  • Must demonstrate effective oral communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department.

  • Minimal 1 year of professional experience with WordPress & back-end PHP Development (including internship).

  • Experienced in developing themes and plugins for WordPress.

  • High competency with Wordpress best Practices, and front end web development.

  • Strong knowledge of current web development languages such as PHP, HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript/jQuery and MySQL.

  • Familiar with the understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues.

  • Ability to clearly understand design requirements.

  • Skilled in writing clean and efficient code conforming to the W3C Standards.

  • Experienced in developing fully responsive websites.

  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization and Website Optimization.

  • Nice to have experience with Git & SVN.
