Visit with an elder who lives in an assisted living home and make their day a bit brighter. Each elder has something unqiue to share and offer and is looking forward to making a new friend!
How can you participate in Friendship and Flowers?
This opportunity is offered on the second Saturday of each month. You can sign up for just one time- or as many months as you would like! Bring a friend, or your family. Great opportunity for small groups too! New volunteers will be asked to complete CORI (a background check) and attend an orientation in Jamaica Plain.
What will the day look like?
Please plan to spend 1-2 hours volunteering. You will stop by our Jamaica Plain office for a brief orientation at 11:30 am where you will receive your elder’s information and some flowers to deliver to the elder.
Located in Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, and Charlestown, all buildings are MBTA accessible and offer free parking for volunteers. The staff will know that you are coming and will help you locate your elder when you arrive at the facility. You will visit with the elder in your choice of indoor and outdoor community spaces at their residence.
Feel free to bring a deck of cards, your favorite magazine, or a game to play together!
