I will be going to Malawi this summer from may 27 to September 15 for the purpose of organizing girls and women to start a craft business for the benefit of World Medical Fund. The girls have AIDS, and are currently receiving both their medicationss and their education from World Medical Fund (WMF). Because of their AID, they have not been able to attend school. The women will be their mothers or care takers. Thus all of them will already have ties to WMF and will be eager to help them. The name of the group of workers is Malawi Ladies Aid Society, They will be organized under WMF. I believe that after a month of training, they will be able to produce items for sale, and I'm developing a website www.malawiladiesaidsociety.org for this purpose. I'm also writing an occasional newsletter, and would be glad to add anyone to mymailing list--I will continue this newsletter after I get to Malawi this summer. I want to advertise and publicize this enterprise as much as I can!

Mission Statement
World Medical Fund brings medical care to children in rural Nkhotakota District in Malawi. Their mobile medical clinic visits dozens of remote villages in the district every month and Dr. Matson Dezi (shown above) , diagnoses medical problems of the children. Mothers and children often walk miles to get to the clinic. It ix their only medical care. When the diagnosis is complete, the mother and child go to the pharmacist to obtain free medicine. Careful records are kept for each child seen.
Description
World Medical Fund is based in the UK--it was founded about 20 years ago by Michael Burt, who retired from the British medical service to found it. He is the President and CEO; the treasurer is Nazlie Chan-Wing-Yen, and the Secretary is Ruth Calkins, who helped Michael expand to the US by creating World Medical Fund USA. The actual work is done in Malawi under Dr. Matson Dezi, who heads World Medical Fund - Malawi. The organization there includes, besides Dezi, a pharmacist, nurses, and of course drivers and security guards. Many visiting doctors and nurses come to World Medical Fund in Malawi for training in tropical medicine.
