The Palliative Care Department at OU Medical Center is launching a new initiative called No One Dies Alone. This program seeks to train volunteers who will act as Compassionate Companions to people in the last stages of life who are without friends and family. Free training and ongoing support are provided.

Volunteers are activated on an "as needed" basis, so volunteer days and times will be sporadic. We will work within your schedule.

Mission Statement

The Hospital Volunteers provide support and non-clinical care to the patients and families of OU Medical Center Adult Towers, and endorse the hospital's mission to value compassion, quality care, and teamwork.

Description

The volunteer organization was founded in 1960 as the Wesley Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. Wesley Hospital became affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church in 1964. Hence, the name changed to Presbyterian Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. In 2003, following the hospital's Joint Operating Agreement with the state of Oklahoma, Presbyterian Hospital and the University Hospital Volunteers merged services. Now established as The Medical Center Volunteers, the organization strives to provide the patients and families of OU MEDICAL CENTER with a variety of patient services. In the past 40 years, the organization has evolved to become an integral part of our hospital services. The volunteers manage the hospital gifts shops, information desks, art galleries and other services focusing on providing patient/family support and comfort. Proceeds from our gift shops allow our organization to support patient services, education, and community health programs.
